Police Officer Job Application
Application deadline: Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.
Starting Salary: $90,465.67
Minimum Requirements:
- $35 non-refundable application fee
- 21 years of age at time of application and under 35 years of age at time of application and at such time as the final eligibility list is posted, unless exempt from such age limitation as provided in Section 5/10-2.1-6 of the Fire and Police Commissioners Act
- Authorized to work in the United States under federal law or qualified under the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) for deferred immigration action
- Associate’s degree or 60 hours of college credit from an accredited college/university
- Valid driver’s license
- Valid POWER test card dated no earlier than November 6, 2024
- Must reside within a 50-mile radius of Niles Police Department and be within the State of Illinois by the end of probation period
- Correctable vision to 20/20 and free from color blindness
- Ability to pass all selection and training requirements. New officers must sign a reimbursement of expenses (Pre-Employment Agreement) contract if they leave within four years

- Copy of official college transcripts – must show at least 60 semester hours or an associates degree have been earned
- Copy of valid driver’s license
- Copy of proof of legal authorization to work in the United States.: can include: County/State-issued birth certificate, U.S. passport, naturalization papers, permanent resident card, or documentation demonstrating meeting qualifications under DACA
- Copy of valid POWER test card dated no earlier than November 6, 2024
Mandatory Written Examination:
The exam will be offered electronically, and you will take the exam in your own home. There will be multiple sessions offered and each will be proctored virtually. All sessions will be offered ruing business hours the week of December 8th – There will be no evening or weekend session available – it is your responsibility to ensure you have the flexibility to test during these times.
