Firefighter and Firefighter/Paramedic Job Application

Starting FF/PM annual wage rate: $79,885 Top FF/PM annual wage rate: $120,568
Firefighter starting annual wage: $74,311
Minimum Requirements:
- Between the ages of 20 and 35 years of age at the time of application deadline unless exempt by statute (65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6).
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident who has applied for citizenship.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Tattoos are not permitted on the head, face, scalp, neck, or on the hands from the wrists to the fingertips.
- Valid CPAT and Ladder Climb due at time of application deadline. Considered valid only if issued within 12 months prior to the application deadline.
- Candidates can register for the CPAT/Ladder Climb at one of the locations linked below or another certified testing facility
- Must have a valid IDPH or National Registry EMT-B license by time of hire.

- Applicant Certification Form – available after download
- Copy of high school diploma
- Copy of valid driver’s license
- Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship or legal authorization to work in U.S.: can include: county/state-issued birth certificate, U.S. passport, naturalization papers, permanent resident card (green card)
- Copy of valid CPAT and ladder climb dated no earlier than May 23, 2024
- Optional: Copy of National Registry/IDPH EMT-B, EMT-I, or EMT-P
- Optional: Copy of Illinois OSFM Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter Certificate (required if applying for lateral hire)
- Optional: Employment Verification Form (if applying for lateral hire)
Applicants who are not yet Paramedics:
Whether you are already enrolled or have not yet begun, we will stand beside you and support you with the salary and benefits outlined above. Candidates hired without a Paramedic license must complete their EMT-Paramedic Licensure within eighteen (18) months of initiation of the EMT-P program or the date of hire, whichever is later. Written Exam Information:
You will have the option to take the exam in-person or in a virtual setting. You must select which method you would like to take the exam at time of application. The virtual exam will be scheduled during business hours the week of June 9th, 2025. The in-person exam is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10th, 2025, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Oral Interview Information:
The initial oral interview will be conducted on June 18th, 2025 beginning at 3:00 p.m., and if needed, June 19th, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
