Hiring Process explained:
Our hiring process is designed to find dedicated, community-minded individuals ready to serve with integrity. Candidates begin with a written examination to assess judgment and problem-solving skills, followed by a panel interview with the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners. Those who advance will complete a thorough background investigation, psychological evaluation and polygraph examination to ensure honesty and emotional readiness for the demands of law enforcement. Final candidates undergo a medical examination and drug screening to confirm fitness for duty. Each step is an opportunity to demonstrate your commitment, professionalism, and readiness to join our team.
Minimum Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- High school diploma or GED
- Must have successfully obtained, from an accredited junior college, college or university, 60 semester hours or equivalent quarter or trimester hours and achieved a “C” grade point average
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be 21 years of age at time of application deadline and under 35 years of age at time of application deadline and at such time as the initial eligibility list is established (except as otherwise determined by State Statute)
- Applicants must have 20/20 corrected vision (eye glasses or contacts may be used to meet the standards) and be able to distinguish between colors (red, blue, green, and yellow)
- Must possess and provide a copy of a valid POWER test card no later than the date of the written exam.
- Preference points for qualifying applicants meeting military, educational or law enforcement experience requirement (65 ILCS 5/10-2.18 and 10-2.1-9)

- Copy of official college/university transcripts reflecting proof of having earned at least 60 semester hours or the equivalent number of quarter or trimester hours and having achieved a “C” grade point average or better (unofficial transcripts and copies of diplomas are not accepted in lieu).
- Copy of valid driver’s license
- Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship. May include: state/county issued birth record, passport or naturalization papers
- Copy of valid POWER test card dated no earlier than December 6, 2024. Due at time of written exam.
Candidates must attend the mandatory orientation and written exam on Saturday, December 6, 2025. Testing will take place in the morning in or around Clarendon Hills, IL. Additional details, including the time and location of the written test, will be provided to eligible candidates approximately one week before the scheduled exam.
