Firefighter Job Application
Application Deadline: Friday, March 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
Starting salary is $78,465
Minimum Requirements:
- Ability to work lawfully in the United States
- No felony convictions
- Must be at least 21 years of age and under 35 years of age at the time of application deadline, or as otherwise exempt by State Statute
- High school diploma/GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be a licensed/certified IDPH Paramedic (EMT-P) or National Paramedic at time of conditional offer of employment
- Individuals not currently in possession of their paramedic license may apply and participate in the testing process if they are currently enrolled in a paramedic program or are currently applying to a paramedic program.
- Illinois Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter Certificate issued by the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM)
- Individuals not currently in possession of this certification may apply if they are currently in a fire academy or are currently applying to one.
- Must provide proof of successful completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) with Ladder Climb Certification conducted by a licensed agency within 12 months immediately prior to the written exam date (4/12/2024 – 4/12/2025) and at time of conditional offer of employment
Required Documentation due 3/14/2025 at 2:00 p.m. (must be delivered via hand or mail):
- Confirmed online application (available after download)
- Consent and Release Agreement (available after download)
- Copy of high school diploma/GED
- Copy of valid driver’s license
- Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship – county/state-issued birth record, passport, naturalization papers, or valid permanent resident card, or work authorization card
- Copy of IDPH EMT-Paramedic License/National Paramedic License OR a letter of current enrollment in a paramedic program OR applicants must list the name of their paramedic program and start date within their application
- Copy of Illinois Firefighter II or Basic Operations Certification from IL OSFM OR applicants must list the name of their fire academy and start date within their application
- Copy of valid CPAT and Ladder Climb certification dated 4/12/2024 – 4/12/2025
Orientation and Testing:
Candidates must attend the mandatory orientation and written examination on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Exact details will be provided to those eligible to test.
