Firefighter/Paramedic Job Application
Application Deadline: Monday, October 20, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.
Starting Salary and Holiday Pay: $80,947 (Year 1), $103,594 (Year 2), and $125,513120,786 (Year 5) plus any applicable incentives per the CBA
Minimum Requirements:
- $45 non-refundable application processing fee
- United States citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must be less than 35 years old by the date of written exam, unless otherwise exempt by state statute, and at least 21 years old by date of hire
- High school diploma (or its equivalent)
- Valid driver’s license (must obtain a valid IL driver’s license at time of appointment)
- Uncorrected vision of 20/100 corrected to 20/30 binocular each eye. Must also be able to distinguish colors and shades
- IDPH EMT-Paramedic License required at time of conditional offer
- OSFM FFII/Basic Operations certification required at time of conditional offer
- Valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) card and approved Ladder Climb Card issued no more than 12 months prior to the date scheduled for the written exam
- Appointed candidates will be granted one (1) year to establish residency within a 65-mile geographic area beyond the District boundaries; U.S. citizenship AND a resident of the United States for a period of one (1) year prior to the date of the written examination
- Candidates who receive a passing score on the written exam will be permitted to advance to the oral assessment screening. The passing score will be in accordance with 65 ILCS 5/10-17/1
- Upon receiving a conditional offer of hire, all candidates must have no felony convictions. Persons with a record of misdemeanor convictions may be disqualified from taking examinations as set forth in 65 ILCS 5/Article 10-1-7(c)f. Certain misdemeanor convictions may disqualify candidates for a position at the District. Must meet the requirements of an in-depth background investigation and pass a thorough physical evaluation prior to a conditional offer of employment

- Copy of high school diploma or GED
- Copy of valid driver’s license
- Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship or proof of legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Copy of valid CPAT and ladder climb (valid if issued between 11/15/2024 – 11/15/2025) – due by date of written exam
- Copy of valid IDPH Paramedic License, if applicable. Will be due at time of conditional offer.
- Copy of OSFM Firefighter II/Basic Operations Certification, if applicable. Will be due at time of conditional offer.
- Copy of Military DD-214 (long form), if applicable
Orientation and Written Exam:
Candidates must attend the mandatory orientation and written examination on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. for sign in, please arrive no later than 9:00 a.m. with a photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, military ID).
Test will be held at: Orland Park Civic Center
