Firefighter/Paramedic Job Application
Application deadline: December 12, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. (CST)

Starting range: $84,458 (2026) – Top out after 6 years $116,753 (2027 end of contract)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Citizenship: Must be a United States citizen.
  • Driver’s License: Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
  • Age Requirement: Applicants MUST have attained their 20th birthday by the last date for filing applications.  Must be 21 at the time of job offer. Applicants must be under the age of 35 years at the time of testing, unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2. 1-6 which provides, in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a full-time firefighter in a regularly constituted fire department of any municipality or fire protection district located in Illinois.
  • Education: Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement
  • Certifications and Training: MUST be Certified as a Basic Operations Firefighter or Equivalent (FF2) by the Illinois State Fire Marshall’s Office and MUST be a certified Paramedic (EMT-P) by the State of Illinois or National Certification at time of job offer.
  • Residence: The City of Burbank does not have a residency requirement at this time.
  • CPAT Card: Not required to apply but must possess a valid CPAT (Certified Physical Ability Test) with Ladder Climb card from a certified testing agency, at time of conditional offer of employment.

Mandatory Written Exam:
Candidates must take the mandatory written examination on Saturday, January 10, 2026. Testing will be held at the Burbank Fire Department Station #1, 8455 Mayfield Ave., Burbank, IL 60459. Sign-in will open at 8:00 a.m. and you must arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. Additional details will be supplied at a later date. 
 

Mandatory Oral Interview:
After the written exam is scored, applicants scoring the minimum on the written exam will be scheduled for an Oral Interview with Fire / Police Commissioners, Date and time TBD.
