Police Officer & Lateral Hire Job Application

Starting Salary for Non-Certified Police Officers: $85,370
Starting Salary for Certified Officers with less than 3 years of service: $94,597
Starting Salary for Certified Officers with more than 3 years of service: $100,503
Salaries Effective May 1, 2025, based on full-time law enforcement experience in Illinois
Minimum Requirements:
- Authorized to work in the United States under federal law or qualified under the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) for deferred immigration action
- Must have valid Illinois driver’s license
- High school diploma or GED
- No felony convictions
- 21 to under 35 years of age by date of the written exam, unless otherwise exempt by Statute
- Residency is required within DuPage County or counties contiguous to DuPage County by the end of 18-month probationary period
- If hired, must be physically fit to pass the POWER test upon entering an Illinois Police Academy
- Must obtain valid Firearms Owners ID Card (FOID)
- To be considered for lateral hire: State of Illinois Law Enforcement Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) as a law enforcement officer in good standing (part-time certification as a law enforcement officer does not meet this qualification), OR candidates must hold an equivalent certification from another state (completed basic police training program/academy) which can be transferred and accepted by the ILETSB. For a conditional waiver of Illinois basic law enforcements training and reciprocity with ILETSB, you must pass all requirements, including but not limited to mandatory firearms training, Illinois Law for Police Course, and equivalency exam within six months of hire.

Written Examination Information:
Mandatory virtual written examination will be held the week of July 28th, 2025. Sessions will only be offered during business hours (no weeknight or weekend options available). Exact dates/times will be released to eligible candidates. It is your responsibility to ensure you have the flexibility to test during these times.
