Firefighter Job Application

The application deadline is Friday, August 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.

Annual Salary Range: $79,512 – $108,818 (as of May 1, 2024)

Minimum Requirements:

• $35.00 non-refundable application fee
• Minimum of 20 years of age and under 35 years of age at the time of the written examination, unless previous full-time Firefighter in Illinois as noted under state statute (65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6.3)
  • Must be at least 21 years of age by the date of hire
• U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• High School Diploma or GED and at least one of the following:
  • Minimum sixty (60) college semester hours OR
  • State of Illinois or National Paramedic Certification OR
  • State of Illinois Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter Certification OR
  • Two (2) years of active military service with an Honorable Discharge by the time of the written examination
• Possess a valid Driver’s License
• Proof of completion of Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and proof of passing the Ladder Climb Test, with attainment date within one (1) year of conditional job offer
  • Note: In case of demonstrated financial hardship, accommodations can be made regarding the CPAT testing fee.  Contact the Village’s Human Resources Office for details
• Have correctable vision to 20/20 and have the ability to distinguish colors
• Tattoos (temporary or permanent) shall not be worn visibly on the hands, neck or head
• Within 12 months from hire, reside in one of the following counties: Lake, Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Will or McHenry counties in Illinois, Kenosha County in Wisconsin or Lake County in Indiana
• Enter into an “Employment of Relatives Agreement,” “Authorization for Release of Personal Information Agreement,” “Candidate Reimbursement Agreement” and “Abstinence of Tobacco Products Agreement”
  • NOTE: Applicants with relatives who are currently employed with the Village will not be eligible for hire – please contact IOS Recruitment for details
  • NOTE: Applicants who have failed to pass any component of the selection process shall not be reexamined within six (6) months from the date of such failure – please contact IOS Recruitment for details 
• Must have ability to understand the English Language (written and spoken).

Required documentation due August 9, 2024, by 2:00 p.m. (not accepted via email or fax; documentation must be hand delivered or mailed):

• Village of Skokie Candidate Reimbursement Agreement (3 pages) – available after purchase
• Village of Skokie Employment of Relatives Release (1 page) – available after purchase 
• Village of Skokie Authorization for Release of Personal Information (1 page) – available after purchase 
• Village of Skokie Abstinence of Tobacco Products Agreement (1 page) – available after purchase 
• High School diploma or GED and a copy of one of the following:
  • Original/Official college/university transcripts indicating successful completion of sixty (60) college semester hours (photocopies/unofficial transcripts not accepted), or
  • Copy of State of Illinois National Paramedic Certification, or
  • Copy of Illinois Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter Certification, or
  • Copy of complete DD-214 Form indicating at least two (2) years active military service with an Honorable Discharge
• Copy of valid driver’s license
• Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship or legal authorization to work in U.S.: can include: county/state-issued birth certificate, U.S. passport, naturalization papers, or current permanent resident card
• Optional copy of valid CPAT and Ladder Climb certification(s) – due at time of conditional job offer and must be dated within 1 year

Written Examination Information:
Candidates must attend the mandatory written examination on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Check-in beginning at 8:00 AM. Please arrive no later than 8:30 AM with a photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, military ID) and a #2 pencil to sign in. There will be no late admittance.

All portions of the testing process are mandatory. Failure to attend and successfully complete any portion of the process will result in elimination from employment consideration.

You must complete the Skokie application by the application deadline. You will also need to print and sign the required release form(s)/Skokie Agreements and gather required documents listed above for submission to IOS Recruitment by 2:00 p.m. (CST) on August 9, 2024.   Do not send application documents or call Skokie Fire Stations or Village Hall. No refunds are issued for late or incomplete applications.
