Firefighter Job Application

Application Deadline: Friday, January 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
Gross Compensation: $80,796.13 – $122,049.04 after 5 years
 

Minimum Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship
• No felony convictions
• Valid driver’s license
• High school diploma/equivalent (GED) or College Diploma
• 21 to 35 years of age by date of hire unless otherwise exempt by statute
• CPAT and Ladder Climb verification by application deadline (valid if issued 01/17/2024 – 01/17/2025)
• Must satisfy one of the following requirements:
  1. Must be a licensed paramedic and possess a basic operations firefighter (BOF) certification from the IL Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) 
     • Note: The department will send candidates who are currently paramedics but do not possess their BOF to the academy. In this situation, employment will be contingent upon successful completion of the academy course. 

OR

2. Must possess a BOF from the IL OSFM and be a licensed EMT-B who will be enrolled in a paramedic program by date of hire. 

Required Documentation due January 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. (must be mailed or hand delivered):

• Confirmed online application (available after download)
• Consent and release agreement- 2 pages (available after download)
• Copy of high school diploma/GED, or College diploma
• Copy of social security card
• Copy of valid driver’s license
• Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship – U.S. County/State issued birth record, valid U.S. passport, or naturalization papers accepted
• Copy of CPAT and Ladder Climb certification – valid if issued between 01/17/2024 – 01/17/2025 
• One of the following must be supported:
  1. Copy of a paramedic license. BOF Certification is optional
  2. Copy of EMT – Basic License AND copy of BOF Certification required.  Must be enrolled in paramedic program by date of hire.
• If applicable, copy of Military Service Records (DDD214 Long Form) including discharge papers
• If applicable, copy of College and University degree

Testing Information:
Your exam will be offered electronically, and you will take the exam in your own home. Testing session(s) will be offered to eligible candidates and will be proctored virtually.  Session(s) will be offered during business hours the week of February 17, 2025, and no evening or weekend sessions will be available – it is your responsibility to ensure you have the flexibility to test during these times. 

In early February, you will receive an email with instructions on how to schedule and prepare for the exam. Please read through the instructions carefully before your exam date. Failure to follow the steps outlined may cause the electronic exam to not work properly, potentially resulting in your removal from the testing session.

Application Process Information:
When you complete the online application, you will receive a confirmation number. You will also need to print and sign the release form and gather the required documentation above for submission to IOS Recruitment by 01/17/2025 at 2:00 p.m.  Failure to complete any portion of the application process will eliminate you for further consideration.
