Firefighter/Paramedic Job Application
Application Deadline: Monday, November 18, 2024, at 4:00 p.m.
Minimum Requirements:
- $25.00 non-refundable application fee
- United States Citizen
- No felony convictions
- Must be at least 21 years of age, and under 35 years of age at the time of application, or as otherwise exempt by statute
- High school diploma (or its equivalent)
- Valid driver’s license
- MUST be currently enrolled in a paramedic (EMT-P) program OR have completed an EMT-P class and currently in certification process OR be a licensed/certified EMT-P. Must have a valid EMT-Paramedic license at time of conditional offer of employment
- Illinois Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter Certificate issued by the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM). No other certificates will be accepted
- Valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and approved Ladder Climb Card due at time of application (issued within one year of application due date – 11/18/2023 – 11/18/2024) and at time of conditional offer of employment (issued within one year of conditional offer acceptance date).
- Residency required within the State of Illinois
Required Documentation due 11/18/2024 at 4:00 p.m. (must be delivered via hand or mail):
- Confirmed online application (available after purchase)
- Consent and release agreement (available after purchase)
- Copy of high school diploma/GED
- Copy of valid driver’s license
- Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship – The following will be accepted: County/State issued birth record, valid U.S. Passport, or Naturalization papers accepted
- Copy of IL FFII/BOF Certificate issued from the OSFM
- Copy of valid CPAT and Ladder Climb certification dated 11/18/2023 – 11/18/2024
- Copy of EMT-Paramedic License OR proof of current enrollment in a paramedic program by submitting a letter of good standing from program OR proof of being in the process of certification.
- Copy of Class completion certificate will be required as proof of being in the certification process
- Letter of good standing must be current, state the applicant’s name, attest to their good standing in the program, and list their anticipated completion date. Tuition invoices are not accepted as proof.
@Home Testing Information:
The exam will be offered electronically, and you will take the exam in your own home. There will be multiple sessions offered and each will be proctored virtually. All sessions will be offered during business hours the week of December 16th. There will be no evening or weekend sessions available – it is your responsibility to ensure you have the flexibility to test during these times. In early December you will receive an email with instructions on how to schedule and prepare for the exam.
Oral Interview:
Applicants who successfully pass the written exam will be scheduled for an oral interview with the Fire District’s Fire Commission. Dates and times of interviews will be assigned by the Fire Commission. Failure to attend the assigned oral interview will result in the applicant not completing the testing process.
All phases of testing are mandatory.
If you fail to attend or do not successfully complete the application process, written exam, oral interview (scheduled after the exam), or any other portion of the testing process, you will not be eligible for employment consideration at the New Lenox Fire Protection District.

You will also need to print the required release forms and gather the required documentation listed above for submission to IOS Recruitment by 4:00 p.m. on 11/18/2024. Failure to complete any portion of the application process will eliminate you from further consideration. Please be sure to read the minimum requirements before applying.
