Firefighter/Paramedic Job Application

Minimum Requirements:
- United States Citizenship.
- Must be 21 years of age at time of application, and under 35 years of age at time of appointment, unless otherwise exempt by statute.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must have a current State of Illinois Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter certification.
- Must be a certified EMT-Paramedic, Illinois Department of Public Health OR be a certified EMT-Basic, Illinois Department of Public Health and at time of hire be enrolled and in good standing in the Southern Fox Valley EMS Paramedic certification program and complete field internship (ride time) requirements with the City of Geneva Fire Department.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within 12 months prior to the application deadline.
- Must pass written examination and oral interview.
- Must pass, after conditional job offer, polygraph test, medical exam, psychological exam, drug screening and an extensive background investigation.
- If hired and prior to completing probation, you must live within 25 miles from corporate limits of the City of Geneva. Residency must be obtained before the completion of his/her probationary period.

- Copy of valid driver’s license
- Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship status: can include: county/state-issued birth certificate (hospital issued birth certificates not accepted), U.S. passport, naturalization papers
- Copy of valid CPAT dated no earlier than April 28, 2025
- Copy of valid IDPH EMT-Basic License
- Copy of valid IDPH Paramedic License (if applicable) OR
- Copy of proof of enrollment in paramedic program (if applicable)
Testing Information:
The written examination will be offered in a virtual setting and in-person. You must select which method you would like to take the exam at the time of application. The virtual exam will be scheduled during the business hours the week of June 9th. The in-person exam is scheduled for Saturday, June 14th.
