Police Officer Job Application
Starting Salary for a full-time police officer is $77,423.60 ($121,589.05 after 5 years)
Minimum Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship or legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be at least twenty (20) years of age at time of application and be 21 at the time of conditional offer of employment. Must be under thirty-five (35) years of age.
- The 35 year age limitation shall not apply in cases where the applicant was previously employed as a full-time police officer in a regularly constituted police department of (i) any municipality located in Illinois. Additionally, the 35-year age limitation shall not apply to any applicant who turned 35 while serving as a member of the active or reserve components of any of the branches of the Armed Forces of the United States or the National Guard of any state, whose service was characterized as honorable or under honorable, if separated from the military, and is currently under the age of 40. Age will be calculated as of the date of scheduled orientation.
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED) at time of application deadline AND have successfully completed 30 hours of Law Enforcement Studies at an accredited college or university OR must have attained an associate’s degree or its equivalent number of hours towards a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) Certification at time of application
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or certain misdemeanors, as defined by Statute
- As a condition of employment, sworn personnel of the Berwyn Police Department are required to reside within the boundaries of the following counties within the state of Illinois: Cook, DuPage, Will, Kane, Lake and McHenry

- Copy of official college transcripts
- Copy of valid POWER test card dated within one year of application
- Copy of Military DD-214, if applicable
Testing Information:
Eligible candidates will be required to attend the mandatory testing. Testing will be held bi-monthly in a virtual format. You may choose which testing session you would like to participate in, but are only permitted to test once. We are currently scheduled out to March of 2025, with more testing dates to be released next year. The following sessions are currently available:
- Week of November 18th, 2024. You must submit your application by October 21, 2024 to register for this session.
- Week of January 13th, 2025. You must submit your application by December 13, 2024 to register for this session.
- Week of March 10th, 2025. You must submit your application by February 7, 2025 to register for this session.
Application Process Information:
When you have completed the online application you will receive a confirmation number. You will also need to print and sign the required release forms and gather required documentation (listed above) for submission to IOS Recruitment before registering for the exam.
