Firefighter Job Application
Application Deadline: Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 5:00 PM EST
Salary Range: $51,304 – $74,110
Minimum Requirements:
- Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of the application deadline, and under forty (40) years of age at the time of job appointment. (However, pursuant to limitations found on the applicable pension laws, persons who have been previously employed as members of the department shall be given credit for the number of years of service completed as an employee of the department by deducting from the applicant’s age the number of years of service completed – such person shall otherwise be required to compete in the application process)
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Completion of a criminal background check to be done by the Terre Haute Police Department. Applicants convicted of a felony with the exception of those judicially expunged will be excluded
- Applicants dishonorably discharged from the military service will be excluded
- U.S. Citizenship
- Valid Driver’s License
- Successful completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test conducted by a licensed agency due at application deadline (valid if dated 10/12/2023 – 10/11/2024).
- Applicants must pass an aptitude test administered through the Merit Commission by a score of seventy percent (70%) or better to be qualified
- As a condition of employment, applicants must pass a medical, psychological and vision exam per the Indiana Public Employee Retirement System. The applicant’s vision must be correctable to 20/40 for each eye.
- In the event an applicant fails to meet any of the requirements above, the applicant is prohibited from reapplying until the next hiring cycle.

Testing Information:
Candidates must attend the mandatory orientation and written examination on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Doors will open at 7:30 AM for sign in, please arrive no later than 8:00 AM (EST) with a valid photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, military ID, or passport).
Test will be held at:
Terre Haute Fire Department Training Center, 2465 N. Brown Ave. Terre Haute, IN 47804
All portions of the testing process are mandatory. Failure to attend and successfully complete any portion of the process will result in elimination from employment consideration.
