Firefighter Job Application

The application deadline is Friday, May 29, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.

Annual Salary Range: $72,278 – $95,699 (as of May 1, 2019)

Minimum Requirements:

  • $35.00 non-refundable application fee;
  • Minimum of 21 years of age and under 35 years of age at the time of the written examination (04/25/2020), unless previous full-time Firefighter in Illinois as noted under state statute (65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6.3);
  • U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S.;
  • High School Diploma or GED and at least one of the following: a) Minimum of sixty (60) college semester hours, b) State of Illinois Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter Certification issued by the OSFM, c) Four (4) years of active military service with Honorable Discharge by the written examination; 
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License; 
  • Proof of completion of Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and proof of passing the Ladder Climb Test, with attainment date less than six (6) months prior to the written exam.  Contact IOS Recruitment for additional information on CPAT agencies. 
  • Have correctable vision to 20/20 and have the ability to distinguish colors; 
  • Tattoos (temporary or permanent) shall not be worn visibly on the hands, wrists, face, neck or head; 
  • Within 12 months from hire, reside in one of the following counties: Lake, Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Will or McHenry Counties in Illinois, Kenosha County in Wisconsin or Lake County in Indiana; 
  • Enter into an “Employment of Relatives Agreement,” “Authorization for Release of Personal Information Agreement,” “Candidate Reimbursement Agreement” and ” Abstinence of Tobacco Products Agreement” Note: applicants with relatives who are currently employed with the Village will not be eligible for hire – please contact IOS Recruitment for details. 
  • Applicants who have failed to pass any component of the selection process shall not be reexamined within six months from the date of such failure – please contact IOS Recruitment for details
  • Must have ability to understand the English Language (written and spoken);

  • Village of Skokie Public Safety Application (10 pages) – available after purchase
  • Village of Skokie Candidate Reimbursement Agreement (3 pages) – available after purchase
  • Village of Skokie Employment of Relatives Release (1 page) – available after purchase 
  • Village of Skokie Authorization for Release of Personal Information (1 page) – available after purchase 
  • Village of Skokie Abstinence of Tobacco Products Agreement (1 page) – available after purchase 
  • High School diploma or GED and a copy of one of the following: Original/Official college/university transcripts indicating successful completion of sixty (60) college semester hours (photocopies/unofficial transcripts not accepted), or, Copy of Illinois Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter Certification Issued by OFSM, or, Copy of complete DD-214 Form indicating at least four (4) years active military service with an Honorable Discharge; 
  • Copy of valid driver’s license; 
  • Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship or legal authorization to work in U.S.: can include: county/state-issued birth certificate, U.S. passport, naturalization papers, or current permanent resident card; 
  • Copy of valid CPAT and Ladder Climb certification(s) – must be dated 6 months prior to the scheduled written exam 

Important Notice Regarding the Written Examination:

The mandatory written exam has been postponed until further notice.  The decision was made in order to limit exposure to and spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), promoting the health and safety of the applicants, test administrators, and departmental staff attending the exam. IOS Recruitment will notify all applicants when a new test date has been set and provide additional details about the examination at that time. The new exam date will take into consideration the availability of CPAT facilities.

You must complete the Skokie PDF application and submit a paper copy to IOS Recruitment by the application deadline. You will also need to print and sign the required release form(s)/Skokie Agreements and gather required documents listed above for submission to IOS Recruitment by 2:00 p.m. (CST) on May 29, 2020. 

Do not send application documents or call Skokie Fire Stations or Village Hall. No refunds are issued for late or incomplete applications.
