LATERAL Police Officer Job Application

Starting salary: $74,985
After 1 year: $91,053

Current top pay: $107,382

Minimum Requirements:

  • $40.00 non-refundable application fee
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 60 semester hours of credit from an accredited institution, some military exemptions apply
  • Vision correctable to 20/20
  • Be a U.S. citizen 
  • Valid IL driver’s license 
  • Pass all stages of the hiring process
  • Previous status as a certified Police Officer in the State of Illinois. Currently in good standing in the police department in which you serve 
  • Possess substantially equivalent skills and abilities as a Village of Bolingbrook Police Officer who has completed the field training period, as determined by the Village, and taken and passed such examinations as the Commission deems necessary to determine fitness for duty as a police officer 
  • Must reside within a 30-mile radius within 18 months of hire

Additional information:

  • All uniform equipment supplied upon hire excluding duty handgun and flashlight
  • Patrol Division works a 12-hour shift schedule
  • Retiree health care benefits
  • The BPD currently has an authorized strength of 112 sworn officers. Upon successful completion of the probationary period (18 months for lateral officers) an officer can apply to openings within specialty assignments 
  • Pension portability is ONLY available within Article 3 Pension Funds. The Chicago Police Department, the Illinois State Police, and County Sheriff’s Department’s, would be unable to transfer their pension. Most other suburban Illinois police officers contribute to an Article 3 pension fund. If you first began to contribute to the Article 3 pension fund prior to January 1, 2011, you would remain in Tier 1. If you began to contribute after January 1, 2011, you would be in Tier 2. You may choose to have your pension contributions and a portion of your current departments transferred to the Bolingbrook Police Pension Fund.   • Copy of high school diploma or equivalent 
  • Copy of official college/university transcripts reflecting 60 semester hours  
  • Copy of valid driver’s license
  • Copy of birth record – can include: U.S. County/State issued birth certificate, U.S. Passport, or Naturalization papers
  • Copy of Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) Certification
