Firefighter Job Application
Application Deadline: Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.
Starting pay is $80,796.13 (starting pay commensurate to career years of service up to year 5)
Top pay after 5 years is $122,049.04 (as of May 1, 2025, including pensionable holiday pay and stipends)
Minimum Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- No felony convictions
- Valid driver’s license
- High school diploma/equivalent (GED) or College Diploma
- 21 to 35 years of age by date of hire unless otherwise exempt by statute
- CPAT and Ladder Climb verification required by date of conditional offer of employment
- OSFM Illinois Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter Certificate, required by date of hire
- IDPH or National Registry EMT – B, required by date of hire
- Enrollment in paramedic school or possession of an IDPH or National Registry Paramedic License, required by date of hire
- Note: The department will send candidates who are currently paramedics but do not possess their BOF to the academy. In this situation, employment will be contingent upon successful completion of the academy course.
Required Documentation due February 5, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. (must be mailed or hand delivered):
- Confirmed online application (available after download)
- Consent and release agreement- 2 pages (available after download)
- Copy of high school diploma/GED, or College diploma
- Copy of social security card
- Copy of valid driver’s license
- Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship – U.S. County/State issued birth record, valid U.S. passport, or naturalization papers accepted
- OPTIONAL Copy of CPAT and Ladder Climb Certificate(s) – due by date of conditional offer of employment
- OPTIONAL Copy of valid IDPH or National Registry EMT Basic License- required by date of hire
- OPTIONAL Copy of Illinois OSFM Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter Certification – required by date of hire
- OPTIONAL Copy of valid IDPH or National Registry Paramedic License- required by date of hire
- If applicable, copy of Military Service Records (DDD214 Long Form) including discharge papers
- If applicable, copy of College and University degree
Testing Information:
Your exam will be offered electronically, and you will take the exam in your own home. Testing session(s) will be offered to eligible candidates and will be proctored virtually. Session(s) will be offered during business hours the week of February 17, 2025, and no evening or weekend sessions will be available – it is your responsibility to ensure you have the flexibility to test during these times.
In early February, you will receive an email with instructions on how to schedule and prepare for the exam. Please read through the instructions carefully before your exam date. Failure to follow the steps outlined may cause the electronic exam to not work properly, potentially resulting in your removal from the testing session.

When you complete the online application, you will receive a confirmation number. You will also need to print and sign the release form and gather the required documentation above for submission to IOS Recruitment by 02/05/2025 at 4:00 p.m. Failure to complete any portion of the application process will eliminate you for further consideration.
