Firefighter/Paramedic Job Application
Application Deadline: Friday, September 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
Salary: $67,699.55
Paramedic Stipend: $5,663.60
Minimum Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Valid Illinois Department of Public Health Paramedic license
- Applicants not currently in possession of an IDPH EMT-P license shall be allowed to complete the testing process by submitting proof of current enrollment in a State of Illinois IDPH approved paramedic program. Applicants must provide proof of enrollment in the program by submitting a letter of good standing from the organization sponsoring their enrollment or by the course administrator, on their letterhead.
- Minimum of 21 years of age as of application deadline and under 35 years of age by date of hire, unless otherwise exempt by statute
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Current physical ability test (CPAT) card and Ladder Climb from an authorized CPAT testing entity is due by time of hire
- No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude
- Must meet the requirements of an oral interview, background investigation, psychological examination and medical examination

- Copy of valid driver’s license
- Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship – can include: U.S. County/State birth certificate, U.S. Passport, or Naturalization papers
- Copy of a valid IDPH EMT-Paramedic license or a letter of good standing from a EMT – Paramedic program
- If applicable, Copy of valid CPAT/Ladder Climb Certificate
- If applicable, copy of DD-214
- If applicable, copy of official college transcripts
Testing Information:
Your exam will be offered electronically and you will take the exam in your own home. There will be multiple sessions offered and each will be proctored virtually. All sessions will be offered during business hours the week of October 14th, 2024. There will be no evening or weekend sessions made available – it is your responsibility to ensure you have the flexibility to test during these times. Eligible candidates will receive additional details at that time.
Open House:
Option to attend an open house on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the main fire station, 100 N. Euclid Ave, Oak Park, IL. Attend to get a feel for OPFD and ask any question you may have.
