Firefighter Job Application

Application Deadline: August 12, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
Starting Salary: $67,693 ($73,193 with Paramedic License)

Minimum Requirements:

  • $30.00 non-refundable application processing fee
  • Be a United States citizen
  • Have no felony convictions
  • Possess a High School Diploma (or its equivalent)
  • Possess a Valid Driver’s License
  • Submit proof of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and Approved Ladder Climb card from a licensed agency by the time the Final Eligibility Register is posted.
  • Be 20 to under 35 years of age by the date of the application deadline (August 12, 2022), unless exempt by state statute.

Required Documentation due 8/12/2022 at 2:00 p.m. – must be submitted via mail or hand delivery:

  • Authorization for Reference Check (available after purchase)
  • Application Addendum (available after purchase)
  • Copy of high school diploma/GED
  • Copy of valid driver’s license
  • Copy of birth record or proof of citizenship – may include state/county issued birth record, US Passport or Naturalization Papers. 
  • Optional copy of valid CPAT and ladder climb certification dated 10/31/2021 – 10/31/2022

Mandatory Written Exam:
The initial testing process will consist of two primary components: a traditional firefighter examination and a situational judgment test. Both will be administered in a paper-and-pencil format. The firefighter exam will assess job-related cognitive abilities, personality characteristics and behavioral traits. The situational judgment test will assess job-related skills associated with interpersonal and problem-solving interactions similar to those you may have on the job. You do not need to have any firefighter experience, training or knowledge to successfully complete these tests.

The written exam will be conducted on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at John Hersey High School, 1900 E. Thomas Street. Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Doors will open for sign-in at 8:30 a.m. and the written exam will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. You are required to arrive at the testing location no later than 9:00 a.m. to sign-in.  All portions of the testing process are mandatory. Failure to attend and successfully complete any
portion of the process will result in elimination from employment consideration.

Candidates must complete the online application (you will receive a confirmation number), sign the consent and release agreement and application forms, and submit all of the required documentation listed above to IOS Recruitment by 2:00 p.m. on 8/12/2022. Application fees are non-refundable.
