Police Officer Job Application

Starting Salary: $60,000

Minimum Requirements:

  • $35.00 non-refundable application fee
  • Be a citizen of the United States 
  • You must be between the ages of 21 to 40 by date of application. For possible exemptions contact IOS Recruitment  
  • Have a high school diploma (or it’s equivalent) 
  • Possess a valid Illinois driver’s license 
  • Be of good moral character and capable of performing the duties of a sworn officer of the State of Illinois 
  • Must possess a valid FOID card
  • Not have been convicted of any felony or crimes of moral turpitude
  • Must possess a satisfactory driving record  
  • Be free from the use of illegal drugs
  • Willingness to submit to a thorough background investigation designed to measure the applicant’s suitability for police work 

Required Documentation due by 4:00 p.m. (CST) on 2/7/2022 (no faxes/emails accepted):

  • Online Application – available after purchase
  • Consent and Release Agreement (2 pages) – available after purchase
  • Copy of high school diploma or equivalent 
  • Copy of valid IL driver’s license
  • Copy of birth record – can include: U.S. County/State issued birth certificate, U.S. Passport, or Naturalization papers
  • Copy of social security card
  • Copy of valid FOID card
  • Optional: copy of COVID-19 vaccination card
  • Optional: copy of Military-ss214
  • Optional: copy of official college transcripts 

Orientation and Testing Information:

Candidates must attend the mandatory orientation and written examination on Saturday, March 5, 2022. The exam is scheduled in the morning and will be held at Thornton Township High School. Additional details will be provided to eligible candidates. 

Preference Point Information:

Qualifying candidates will have the opportunity to claim preference points for the categories below. Additional details on how to claim will be provided at a later time.

  • Military (5 points) – Minimum of one year of full-time active military service in any branch of the U.S. Military with honorable discharge 
  • Education (5 points) – Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement or Bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited college/university 
  • Experience (5 points) – Current employment as a full-time or part-time law enforcement officer in the state of Illinois. A certificate form the Illinois Local Government Law Enforcement Officer Training and Standards Board must be presented

You will also need to print and sign the required release form and gather required documentation (listed above) for submission to IOS Recruitment by 4:00 p.m. (CST) on 2/7/2022.  Failure to complete any portion of the application process will eliminate you for further consideration.  No refunds are issued for incomplete or late applications.
